FAMSA Western Cape is a non-profit organisation that has been providing relationship and family counselling for over 70 years. They believe that healthy families are the foundation of healthy communities, and they welcome all family structures — including single-parent families, LGBTQ+ couples, extended families, and blended households.
If you are a survivor of domestic violence or trauma, FAMSA offers a confidential, non-judgmental space to begin healing.
What They Offer Survivors Domestic Violence Counselling FAMSA provides dedicated counselling and support for survivors of domestic violence. They understand the fear, isolation, and shame that often comes with abuse, and their counsellors walk alongside you without judgement. Support is available for individuals, couples, and families.
Trauma Counselling If you have experienced trauma — whether recent or in the past — FAMSA’s counsellors offer a safe, supportive space to process your experience. They provide trauma defusing, debriefing, and ongoing counselling to help you understand your responses and begin the healing process.
Divorce and Relationship Counselling For survivors leaving abusive relationships, FAMSA offers counselling to help you navigate the emotional and practical challenges of separation, including mediation services to protect children’s interests.
LGBTQ+ Inclusive Counselling FAMSA explicitly offers supportive, non-judgmental counselling for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, including support around coming out, discrimination, relationship difficulties, and identity.
Online Counselling You can book counselling sessions online through their client portal — helpful if attending in person feels unsafe or difficult.
Community Counselling Free community counselling is available Men Stopping Violence Group (MSVG) FAMSA also runs a group programme for men who are perpetrators of domestic violence — an important intervention for those who want to stop the cycle of abuse.
