Life Changer SA was founded on a belief so simple it is almost radical: the only thing separating any of us from homelessness is the family we were born into. It is not a character flaw. It is not a choice. From that conviction, Life Changer built a programme in Pietermaritzburg that meets people exactly where they are — on the street, in a children's home, in a foster family — and walks alongside them toward change.

They are a member of the National Homeless Network of South Africa, connecting their local work to the national movement for homeless rights, policy reform, and shared best practice.

What They Offer Survivors and Vulnerable People

The Life Boat Resource Centre — Daily Frontline Support The Life Boat Resource Centre is Life Changer's street-facing hub in Pietermaritzburg, providing daily hot meals, fellowship, toiletries, clean clothing, rehabilitative counselling, and connection to resources for anyone experiencing homelessness. Staff and volunteers build genuine relationships — getting to know each person's story and working with them to identify pathways forward.

Psychosocial and Addiction Recovery Support Life Changer provides psychosocial counselling and addiction recovery support for people on and around the street — recognising that trauma, addiction, and homelessness are deeply intertwined, and that only addressing all three together creates lasting change.

Children at Risk of Street Living Life Changer works proactively with children in care homes and foster placements who are vulnerable to becoming street sleepers — providing support, advocacy, and mentorship to give them a better chance before they reach the street.

Adoption and Foster Care Support and Advocacy Life Changer supports children who are in the process of adjusting to foster or adoptive care — and assists adoptive families and children's homes navigating those transitions. They believe every child deserves a family, and they advocate for that fiercely.

National Homeless Network Participation Life Changer participates in the National Homeless Network — advocating with government, sharing best practices, and working to improve the conditions and rights of homeless people at a systemic level across South Africa.
