About

LifeLine Vaal Triangle has been providing free, confidential counselling and support to the Vaal Triangle community for over 40 years, since 1984. One of 18 LifeLine centres across South Africa, they form part of a national network committed to mental and emotional wellbeing for all. Their vision is a mentally and emotionally healthy South Africa — where every person, regardless of their background, can access support.

With a newly expanded GBV programme and over 67 staff members, they now offer one of the most comprehensive wraparound services in the Sedibeng and Sasolburg region.

What They Offer Survivors

24-Hour Crisis Line and Telephone Counselling LifeLine Vaal's crisis line (016 428 1640) is available around the clock, every day of the year. All calls are free, anonymous, and confidential — you do not have to share your name or any personal details. A trained counsellor will listen, support you, and help you explore your options.

The national LifeLine line (0861 322 322) is available 24/7 for callers across all nine provinces covering any issue, from loneliness and grief to trauma, violence, relationship difficulties, suicidal thoughts, and more.

Stop Gender Violence Helpline — 0800 150 150 (Toll-Free, 24/7) This national helpline, operated through LifeLine, is available to women, men, girls, and boys across South Africa who have experienced or witnessed gender-based violence. It is available in all 11 official languages. You can call or WhatsApp for a silent conversation. This line is available to anyone, anywhere in South Africa.

Free Counselling at Four Service Centres (Vaal) Face-to-face counselling is available at four LifeLine centres in the Vaal Triangle — in Duncanville, Sebokeng, Sharpeville, and Palm Springs — and more recently in Sicelo. Sessions are free and facilitated by trained lay counsellors and social workers.

Shelter for Abused Women and Children LifeLine Vaal operates a dedicated shelter for abused women and their children, established in 1988. The shelter is staffed 24 hours and can accommodate 11 people at any time. Residents have access to professional support, skills development, and empowerment programmes.

Thuthuzela Care Centre Support (Kopanong TCC) LifeLine Vaal provides dedicated GBV and sexual violence support services at the Kopanong Thuthuzela Care Centre — where survivors can access medical care, forensic examinations, counselling, and SAPS statement-taking under one roof, 24 hours a day.

GBV Programme LifeLine Vaal has a dedicated, funded GBV programme providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence across the Sedibeng District.

Personal Wellness and Empowerment Workshops Two structured group programmes are available: - Unlocking Potential — an 8-week experiential programme focused on emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, communication skills, and healthy relationships - Distress Must Fall — a trauma education and recovery course covering trauma's impact on the mind, body, and emotions, and practical recovery strategies

Youth Programme: Young Warriors An annual programme for Grade 9 learners (boys and girls), engaging young people around gender, relationships, and emotional wellness — planting seeds of change in the next generation.
