About
Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is the oldest organisation in South Africa dedicated to supporting rape and sexual violence survivors — established in 1976, nearly 50 years ago. They began as a volunteer-run feminist collective and have grown into a nationally recognised, multi-programme organisation. Their work is built around three programmes: the Road to Recovery (healing), the Road to Justice (legal support), and Making Change (community education and prevention).
Their message to every survivor is clear: "We believe you and are here to listen — even if it happened a long time ago, even if you didn't report it, even if no one else believes you."
What They Offer Survivors
24-Hour Helpline and WhatsApp Line You can reach Rape Crisis any time of day or night. Whether you are in crisis right now or simply need someone to talk to, their helplines are free and confidential. You do not have to be ready to report — you just need to reach out.
Free, Confidential Counselling Rape Crisis offers free one-on-one counselling to survivors of rape and sexual violence of all gender identities. Counselling helps you process your emotions, develop coping strategies, and take care of yourself. They encourage survivors to attend up to 12 sessions, but will support you for as long as you need — there is no time limit on your healing.
Court Support If you choose to report and pursue justice, Rape Crisis supports you through every stage of the criminal justice system — from the initial report to court proceedings. They know the system can be intimidating and re-traumatising, and they work to ensure you are never alone in it.
Social Work Sessions Qualified social workers are available to help address the broader practical and emotional challenges survivors face, including safety planning, referrals, and support for children.
Thuthuzela Care Centre Support Rape Crisis works inside three Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs) in Cape Town, where survivors can access medical care, counselling, and legal support all in one safe place — available 24 hours a day.
Community Workshops Rape Crisis runs workshops in communities and schools, particularly in areas with high rates of sexual violence, to challenge myths and stereotypes about rape, educate young people about consent and reproductive health rights, and build community support for survivors.
All Rape Crisis counselling services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. You do not have to report to the police to access counselling or medical care.
