About

About the Salvation Army – Eastern KwaZulu-Natal Division

The Salvation Army Eastern KwaZulu-Natal Division is the regional body overseeing Salvation Army corps and community programmes in the eastern areas of KwaZulu-Natal province, including Zululand and surrounding districts. Its Divisional Headquarters is located in Eshowe, a town in the Zululand District Municipality.

Role of the Divisional HQ

The DHQ coordinates the work of local corps and service points, providing oversight, resources, and referral pathways across the region. It is the primary contact point for:

  • Routing survivors to the nearest Salvation Army corps or shelter
  • Coordinating emergency responses to GBV and family crisis situations
  • Liaising with government departments (DSD, SAPS, DoH) and partner NGOs
  • Overseeing the Eastern KZN implementation of national Salvation Army community programmes

Services Through the Division

Aligned with the national Work with Abused Women and Children programme, Eastern KZN corps and outreach points deliver:

  • Crisis support, practical assistance, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Food parcels, clothing, and emergency relief for women and children in crisis
  • Counselling support and trauma referrals
  • Anti-human trafficking awareness (particularly relevant in coastal and border communities)
  • Children's and youth programmes
  • Family welfare services and community support groups
  • Spiritual care and pastoral support

Geographical Coverage

The Eastern KZN Division covers largely rural and semi-rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal, including communities in the Zululand and iLembe districts. Many communities served have limited access to other specialised GBV services, making the Salvation Army's presence a critical safety net.

Who They Serve

Women, children, and families in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal region affected by domestic violence, gender-based violence, poverty, or crisis situations. Services are open to all.
