About
Sisters Incorporated has been a place of safety in Cape Town for over 60 years, founded in 1959. What began as a refuge for single mothers has grown into a dedicated shelter and healing centre for women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence, rape, and abuse. They offer care that is completely free of judgement, criticism, and bias — and their approach is deeply holistic, supporting survivors to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Sisters Incorporated provides 24/7 professional residential care for up to 28 survivors at any given time. Children are welcome — including girls of all ages and boys up to the age of ten.
What They Offer Survivors
Safe Emergency Shelter (Residential) If you need to leave immediately, Sisters Incorporated offers a safe, secure home where you and your children can live while you begin to heal. The address is kept confidential to protect residents' safety. Accommodation is provided free of charge.
Professional Counselling A full-time social worker provides daily counselling support to residents, helping them work through trauma, build resilience, and prepare for life beyond the shelter. Therapeutic support addresses physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse.
Skills Training Skills training is woven into the therapeutic programme. Through creative activities and purposeful reflection, residents discover their own strengths and abilities, set goals, and develop the confidence to move forward independently. This forms a vital part of preparing to reintegrate into the world.
Childcare and Homeschooling Children staying at Sisters Incorporated are cared for and supported, with homeschooling and a childcare facility available — so that children's education and wellbeing are not disrupted during an already difficult time.
Holistic Healing Programme Sisters Incorporated is one of very few shelters in the Western Cape that provides a full therapeutic programme — not just a bed. Their programme is designed to equip survivors with the inner tools, practical skills, and emotional strength needed to leave with their heads held high.
